Hundreds of thousands of protesters marched up Capitol Hill in D.C. on 1/22/08, on the 35th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision that invented a right to an abortion (Roe v. Wade, 1973). Abortion foes from all over the country had rallied earlier on the Ellipse.
Many of the marchers were Catholic school students let out for the day and bused to Washington D.C. Catholic University wound up hosting more than 1,600 high school and college students from other states at their campus to help them afford attending the event.
President Bush addressed March for Life participants for the last time, asking them to continue standing up for the right to life of unborn children. "Biology confirms that from the start each unborn child is a separate individual with his or her own genetic code...Babies can now survive outside the mother`s womb at younger and younger ages, and the fingers and toes and beating hearts that we can see on an unborn child`s ultrasound come with something that we cannot see: a soul."
On the same day, pro-life advocates rallied outside the Trenton Statehouse calling for an end to abortion and related issues which violate the sanctity of human life, including human embryonic stem cell research, human cloning, and assisted suicide.
Thank you for marching and praying!
