Hundreds of thousands of protesters marched up

Capitol Hill in D.C. on 1/22/09, on the 36th

anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision that invented a right to an abortion (Roe v. Wade, 1973). Abortion foes from all over the country had rallied earlier on the Ellipse.

This year stood in stark contrast to last year, as the new leader of our country, Pres. Obama supports abortion. Last year, Pres. Bush asked marchers to continue standing up for the right to life of unborn children. This year, Obama praised the Supreme Court for the 1973 ruling: "[T]his decision not only protects women’s health and reproductive freedom, but stands for a broader principle: That government should not intrude on our most private family matters,” Obama said in a statement. “I remain committed to protecting a woman’s right to choose.”

On the same day, pro-life advocates rallied outside the Trenton Statehouse calling for an end to abortion and related issues which violate the sanctity of human life, including human embryonic stem cell research, human cloning, and assisted suicide.
