Broward Right to Life executive director Tewannah Aman, center, with young women who participated in the 9-week summer Guard Your Heart initiative to provide life skills for wise choices.
The 9-week Guard Your Heart pregnancy prevention program for teen girls wrapped up on August 5. Broward Right to Life executive director Tewannah Aman was one of the key facilitators of the program, conducted under the auspices of Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies.
Four young mommies completed the summer initiative which seeks to help these young moms make wiser choices as they move forward into the future.
“This program has really helped me to break free of an unhealthy relationship,” she said, “I am so thankful for Guard Your Heart. I am learning to start over.”
Over the course of the program, Tewannah addressed many topics relating to developing healthy relationships. Some students shared how they’d fallen into a cycle of emotional, and even physical abuse. The trauma some have experienced is heartbreaking to hear.
But by the end of the journey, they all said the program had positively impacted their lives. One young woman said she finally ended her relationship with the baby’s daddy and felt like a weight had been lifted from her. “This program has really helped me to break free of an unhealthy relationship,” she said, “I am so thankful for Guard Your Heart. I am learning to start over.”
Another woman commented, “I must draw boundary lines in my relationship. I am beginning to understand how unhealthy it really is. This program has helped me do that.”
